Breast Augmentation Technique: Areola Incision

Breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure which can increase the bust size through the use of saline or silicone implants which are bio-compatible materials to the human tissue.

This cosmetic plastic surgery involves incisions where the implants are inserted inside the breast pocket. It may be located underarm, below the breast crease, within the navel's rim, and around the areola, which is one of the most popular site for incision.

According to plastic surgery doctors, the areola incision technique is done by cutting the edge of the pigmented area of skin that surrounds the nipple. To better hide the scars, the incision is made at the areola's edge where the lighter breast tissue meets the pigmented area.

The Advantages of Breast Implants Through Areola Incision

If properly performed, the incision leaves unnoticeable scars on the edge of the areola which is why the procedure is very popular among breast augmentation patients.

Another advantage is that the incision site allows doctors to work closely to the breasts, giving them more control and accuracy. According to plastic surgery experts, the areola and breast crease incision sites are the only techniques that allow them to place the implants in different positions and levels of the chest muscles.

Women who want to have a breast lift procedure (or mastopexy) and breast augmentation can also benefit from the areola incision site. Because the breast lift surgery always involved incisions around the areola, there is no need to make additional cut that would result to more scarring.

The Disadvantages of Areola Incision

While most women who have this procedure reported that their scars have healed well, there is still a possibility of severe scarring particularly if the wound does not heal properly due to delayed recovery and infection after the surgery.

This incision site also results to more pain and post-operative discomfort since it requires doctors to separate a large segment of muscles and connective tissues in the breasts.

Another disadvantage is the risk of loss of sensation in the breasts. However, this complication is also a concern in all incision sites but the areola site has a slightly higher rate of such risk.

But still, one of the greatest concerns in the areola incision site is that patients have a higher risk of infection which usually happens if the implants come into contact with the breast duct. To reduce the risk of such complication, most doctors today use a "protective sleeve" during a breast augmentation surgery to make sure that the implants will not be contaminated with the bacteria present in the breast ducts.

I am goping to undergo breast augmentation/lift in a month or so. I am currently a small 36B. What shape/size breasts do men like? I mean, I'm getting them for myself, but I'm curious. What is it about breasts that is so attractive to men? Please, no crude answers, I really want and need truth here and introspection.

Plastic Surgeons...?
I am in college right now and am applying for med school in the spring. I think I want to be a plastic surgeon, but i want to be sure that im going into the right feild. I want to do breast augmentations, (lifts, reductions, implants, ect.) however i do not want to work in er i do know a plastic surgeon and he works in the er and when people get in fights or physical mess their face up skin wise, he'll take cartliage from other parts of your body skin too, to fix it. i do not want to do that? so do i have to specialize or if i become a plastic surgeon do i have to do that also?

Should I get a breast augmentation/lift (Picture included) 16 years old?
I'm 16 and my breasts sag. I know some sag is normal but mine is beyond normal sag. I was on steroids for asthma and lost weight. My breast didn't get bigger or smaller but there's a lot of extra skin (at least 2 inches on each breast). Bras don't work (don't suggest them). I've been wearing a bra since I was 8. I've tried every kind and every brand. I looked into lifts but lifts look much better with implants and I don't plan on having kids for like 10 years so I won't get sagging from pregnancy. If I'm going to have really bad scarring anyway, I might as well get the best looking breasts I can. Do you agree? I'm a C cup. I plan to go to like a D or DD (I'm not going for the Pam Anderson look. I'm tall and breast implants are smaller than natural sizes meaning a DD appears more like a D). I'm want to get surgery when I'm 18. I'm very tall and bigger boned. I can handle larger implants. I don't have back pain. I've tried push up bras. They give them no shape whatsoever. My breasts can't even go together to form cleavage. No, I do not have a LITTLE bit of sag. My doctor has told me I have the high degree of sag. A little sag is when they're a few cm off. My sag is 3-4 inches. My breasts do not even start until an inch after my breast bone sticks out. I'VE TRIED EVERY TYPE OF BRA! SPORTS, UNDERWIRE, PUSHUP, ECT. NOTHING WORKS!!! I've spent hundreds of dollars on bras. They do not work. I've been fitted many times. They will not help. This is what my doctor has told me. It doesn't even matter if I wear a bra or not anymore.
